How Long Before You Don't Have to Pay a Fine?
I had a letter through this weekend telling me I had failed to make a payment of £45. I had no idea what this is for so have rang the court and they tell me it is for driving without a seatbelt, from 2004! I am waiting for further details but I really do not remember it at all and do not recognise the registration number I have been given so it's possible somebody pretended to be me
They are calling me with further details but can they still impose this fine some 9 years later? I thought the maximum was 6 years?

You're thinking of the statute of limitations which AFAIK applies only to private debts and not state debts.
Be careful about not paying this or you may end up with a summons.0 -

How did the letter get to you? If you're claiming the vehicle wasn't one that you owned how would they have been able to match its details with your address?0
