Car Insurance.....can anyone help, for the first time I need car insurance for my 22 year old daughter who has just passed her test. We will initially be sharing a car but I want to find an insurance company that will let her build up her own no claims bonus. not sure whether i need to insure in my name with her as additional driver or visa versa.

my daughter will be the main driver and she is unable to work so just personal use

If she is the main driver and you want her to build up her NCD it is easiest to just put it in her name but this means you cannot use any NCD that you have and not currently in use.

You could go with an insurer that allows NCD to build up ND NCD and have it in your name but then you are generally locked to that insurer for using the NCD when she wants to get her own policy. The other issue is that you would need to inform them that the ND is the main driver which probably has to be done by phone meaning you may lose the online discount and/ or have to pay an admin fee.

If you go with option one and put it in her name, just remember any NCD you have built up will be lost after 2 years of it not being used.
