Hi all,
I am in the process of moving to a new build house and they have informed me that the gas and electric is supplied by Scottish Power for at least the 1st month.
I am currently tied into a 1 year deal with SSE.
Where do I stand with this?, I thought I would just take my existing deal with me.

Is the 1 month stipulated as part of a purchase condition? If not, you are not bound. You could also take a final reading when you move out, requesting new supply 30 days hence!0

When moving you are not tied to the contract.
If you read this forum you will learn that when you move into your new house you are in a deemed contract with Scottish Power, you have to register with them and are then free to switch suppliers.
At you old address the account needs to be finalised therefore your existing tariff ends unless SSE would agree to finalise the account but let you restart on your previous tariff once you switch from SP to SSE.0 -
Contact SSE, they may be able to register as the supplier at you new address on the day you move in so you are never with SP.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Hi all, While I am sure the OP wants to keep his deal, I would suggest that he registers with us to avoid any switching issues. We may object to the transfer if we are unaware of who the customer is. Also the new build will initially be registered as a plot address, so I would also recommend everything is set up and updated with the new postal address before the switch. The builder should provide us with customer details as part of the handover process.
That said, so long as the OP is registered with SP, he can switch straight away. in my experience a new build may take a little longer to sort out than if he were moving to an existing property.
If the OP wants any specific help with this then he contact us direct via our profile Hope this helps. David“Official Company Representative

A house move voids your existing contract without penalty, so no ETC will apply. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
