This quote came back quite a bit more than I was expecting but I have nothing to compare with (yet):

- Texecom alarm and lcd keypad
- 5 pet friendly sensors
- 1 door contact
- 1 External sounder and 1 external dummy

= £590 plus VAT

Optional extra £140 to add a dialler to ring me up when it goes off (would like this).

Optional extra £100 to change the alarm to a more expensive brand with key fobs (not bothered about brand).

House is an extended 3 bed semi with standard layout and easy access.

Sorry I meant £590 PLUS VAT. So over £700 really.

    Doesn't sound unreasonable to me.

Texecom is an excellent brand used by many security professionals. Which model will the installer be fitting? Wired/wireless?

Do you know which model they will be installing? Wired is always preferred over wireless.

No I don't. But I was looking to pay in the £400s and this is going on for twice that.

Here are some prices to give you an idea:

Texecom Excel Base Unit with LCD (£170)

    http://www.diy-alarms.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=109&products_id=369&osCsid=hm4fv9pbcrbo7gdnncdlhggmg6

Note the above kit is one of the basic models.

    Pet friendly PIRs (£20 each)
External sounder (Included in above kit)
    Decoy sounder (£10)
    Door contact (£2 each)
    100m 8 core cable (£15)

The parts alone will cost around £300 based on the above. The installer will have their installation charge on top of this. So for the above system, around £400 is a keen estimate.

Auto-dialers can be expensive and you have to consider how accessible your telephone line is from outside. If a burglar can cut the telephone wire at ground level, then you may want to consider a GSM auto-dialer. They are much more costly.

In terms of brands, the following are all reputed: Texecom, Cooper, Honeywell, Tyco/Visonic.

The above website has a lot of useful information on it however, you may find cheaper prices on other websites such as Alert Electrical.

    Thanks for that.

Had another quote today though for £570 all in, including VAT and dialler. Much more professional and knowledgeable man as well, and more established local firm. More like it. :money:

Risco with Texecom sensors. TBH it's not just the price, it was a much better quote, broken down in detail, the company is more established, and he took a lot longer to talk everything through and work out carefully where the wires would go. Brand of alarm doesn't bother me (and I don't know whether Risco or Texecom is "better").

Had another quote even cheaper today, c£500 all in, same Risco system, so even better price now but the 2nd firm did seem slightly better although both much better than the 1st, so a decision to make.
