Can You Paint Decking Boards With Cuprinol Garden Shades?

Options
As the title states.... Can you?

I know we can do the balustrades but what about the decking boards?

I emailed Cuprinol in the week but have yet to receive a reply. We painted our shed today and have held off doing the decking until we know for sure.

Of course you can. Whether you should is a different matter. All depends on how resilient it is to foot traffic.

I expect if Cuprinol get back to you they will recommend one of these.

Did you paint your shed with Cuprinol Shades? I'm just asking as we painted our summerhouse in "Country Cream" and it took about 5 coats! We found it very thin and coverage was truly awful. I'd be interested to know what you thought of it.

I painted the cladding on the outside of a garage from a old dark brown to a light stone(ish) colour. Covered in 3 coats. Was your summerhouse very dry timber? As you said the product is very thin so it absorbs a lot into thirsty timber.
Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!
  • I am overpainting the pale green cuprinol on my shed with the Country Cream - three coats and it looks terrible. I have used 2.5l @£23 and badly painted two sides - not impressed. The final coat seems to go on like painting wax, all bubbles, the blue is still showing through, I reckon this will take 5 coats minimum. Not a happy customer.

Yes, it's not cheap is it? We were very unimpressed with it. We lost the will to live after 5 coats...

Glad I read this as I was thinking of getting it to go over some dark red and wanted a lighter colour. Anything else out there that actually works?

  • Hi,

I had an old, knackered fence that I`d painted previously with a cheap wood stain/paint in a dark brown colour - think Bournville chocolate.

Last year, I painted over it with a Shades colour called Damson-something....it`s a purpley pink colour.

Took one coat and then went round the nest day to touch up the bits I`d missed.

It`s our font garden fence, about 3 feet high, and we`ve had a lot of compliments from people passing by. It has transformed the fence and it still looks like new, though I did see that a bit has flaked off the top so I`ll touch that up soon.

Yes it is expensive, but it saved us from buying a new fence. Yes it is a thin paint, but luckily it worked for us. I think that I too would be really brassed off it was taking more than one coat, but I would recommend carrying on as the results can be lovely.
