Staff discounts for part-time staff

Do any of the supermarkets offer staff discounts on purchases for part-time workers?

If so, what sort of amounts apply and are there qualifying periods? minimum hours per week?

Any advice gratefully received - thank you.

Although there are things you don't get discount on, fuel sales, lottery tickets and gift cards (off the top of my head).

And Morrisons give each member of staff two staff discount cards; one intended for their own use and another for a family member:T

I took a girlfriend to my local Tesco Metro recently, she was showing off her 10% discount to me. I told her to check her receipt as they over charge at least 50% of the time I use it.

Low and behold they had overcharged her £12 on a total purchase of £50. The overcharge was more than her discount

Morrisons - 10% [This discount is given immediately]
    Tesco/Asda/Sainsburys/Co-Op - 10% [Believe their is a 6 month qualifying period]

Also 'generic' offers on things such as hotels, days out, mobile phone contracts etc,

You have to wait (up to a month) for the Morrison's Staff Discount cards to be sent out;)
But yes, there are other offers - holidays I think...

  • Thank you for such rapid replies.

I am thinking of applying to a supermarket as I need part-time work and there seem to be jobs advertised fairly often in my area.

The pay rate isn't huge but I like to be busy and can work unsocial hours. If I get a discount on my shopping too it would make the job more attractive.

All I have to do now is to apply and get a job!:)

Good luck with that then. FWIW Morrison's seem to vary the shifts their staff work; basically you get a contract, tell them what days/times you're available and then they rota you in. DD has an 8 hour contract, usually across two of the days she's available to work; sometimes it's split 3 hours one day 5 hours another (3 hours seems to be for Sundays, when the store is only open for 6 hours.) .
Check the websites of stores you're interested in;)

Coop gave DS2 a discount card when he was doing a paper round for them, one day a week!

Actually they gave him two, one for his partner, which he gave to me.

I know a few friends and relatives that work for supermarket (Sainsburys and Tesco) and once a year, they get a statement stating how much they have saved in staff discount. The average was £375. Think of it as an extra £30 in your bank every month.

Sainsburys do 15% discounts for about 10-12 weeks of the year - mainly in December and school holidays. I hear the colleagues moan 'oh back to 10%' when I pop in checking out the reductions after a period of 15%.

I have also heard Asda have a limit on alcohol. Its not much - £100. So that's a couple cases of beer, 3 bottles of spirits and 9 bottles of wine on 3 for £10. I cannot tell you if this policy was in place and was it just in a year or December.
