Is there a good 'What's On' Website?

Does anyone please know if there is a good 'What's On' website which covers the UK?
What I'm looking for is a site that enables one to search, on a town or postcode basis, for local events such as special events, folk festivals, agricultural shows, sporting events, concerts etc. etc. i.e. things that are on for a few days.
It's easy to find attractions in an area that are open all year but the only way to find such events as the above seems to be to trawl the local papers and/or lots of different websites.
Surely there is a website that pulls all this together? If not, there's a great need for one and it would be very popular with both event organisers and public alike. Could be a big money-spinner too?
Any thoughts please?

Thanks, hadn't come across that website before and it looks good for my area too. Although, as you say, it all relies on organisers putting info about their events on the site first.

You could try this one

Thanks, but this isn't what I'm looking for as it mainly lists permanent attractions rather than special events etc. (see my original post). You could try this one

Also, the search facilities are not so good (county-wide and no date search facility).

I know it's a bit more area specific (rather than whole of UK) but have you tried looking at the local council's website?
For example, this would be my local one http://www.visitportsmouth.co.uk/
You could then search in the towns that would be closer to you, or closer to where you want to visit.0 -
Thanks, yes Council tourism websites can be quite useful. However, here in Poole I would have to search 6 different local authority websites to cover say 15 miles round where we live. Also some of the smaller events don't always make it to these sites which are perhaps mainly aimed at tourists?I know it's a bit more area specific (rather than whole of UK) but have you tried looking at the local council's website?

I was hoping someone might know of a more comprehensive site, or one which scrapes details from other sites - and so pulls everything together. So far ellay864's www.wherecanwego.com comes closest to it IMHO.

I can't see the value in the site listing or linking to every area in the UK.
If you're looking for events, you're looking for events in one part of the UK, not all over. I can't imagine many people are looking for a concert in London on Wednesday, a play in Glasgow on Thursday, and an agricultural fair near Cardiff on Friday/Saturday......0 -
You might not be but some people may! When we visit other parts of the country it would be helpful to be able to find information about such events without having to trawl through lots of websites and local papers etc.I can't see the value in the site listing or linking to every area in the UK.

The other thing is that if there were one leading 'consolidator' website for local events etc., it would become well known and so organisers would also ensure details of their event were posted there. If there were lots of different local MSE websites, MSE would never have become the major force it is today.
