There used to be an OU thread in the students section.

I forgot to say that I work 4 full days a week, have 2 boys - 9 and 6 and a house to run and fit my study in on my day off in the week whilst the boys are in school.

All the info you need is included in your course materials unless they direct you to other articles, it does help to have a good interest in what you are studying.

Good luck to all of you!

Just saw you want to start in October, beware of Christmas time - it can divert you away from studying and needs great self-discipline to not put it off until tomorrow.

I've been studying with them since 2010 and just started my 7th course. It's hard at times but I won't let it beat me and that helps me push through it. I don't have set study time I just do it as and when I can round the kids. This week has been hard as I had an ema due while kids off but I managed...and hopefully will pass
Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T

Christmas doesn't really make much difference, routine doesn't change due to working in retail!

Thanks for the advice though :)

I did a teaching degree at a regular university, then a psychology conversion degree and business management certificate via ou ( long dark winters where I used to live:D:)

The quality of resources and marking feedback, networks of support, camps etc were far superior with open university. If I had my time again, I wouldn't bother with a bricks and mortor uni, but opt for ou instead - for qualifications anyway:) ( uni was good for partying).

    I'm currently doing 2 modules
1 I love and I'm doing ok with it, and enjoy putting the work in
The other bores me senseless and I am really struggling with it, but determined to pass!

I graduated in April after 6 years studying for my degree-suited me much better than going off to uni, worked full time (and also did a part time college course in something completely different during the last two years, I must be mad!), I honestly loved it. The best bit was being able to structure my own study-I could go mad for two weeks before a holiday so I could ignore the books for a week! I would highly recommend it!

I love it. I'm currently doing a full degree in the minimum amount of time possible, which ended up being four years (would have been three, but one year 3 module required you to take a previous year 3 module first and the timing meant it ended up being spread out a bit). You need to really be able to make yourself sit down and work and focus, but I'm doing far better with it than when I went to a "normal" university. I'm also getting the support necessary (as a disabled student) that I never got with my normal uni.

I wanted to do my postgrad with the OU but they're not taking new students in the Psychology/Social Work catergories as its being reviewed :(

Does anyone know when it's going to be back on track? I phoned up and the woman I spoke to was speaking as though it was gonna be years rather than months

I did a few post-graduate computing courses. They were listed as around 7-8 hours study a week and this is probably about what I did. You really do need to keep up with the recommended study schedule, though, because if you start to fall behind then it can be difficult to catch up.

In the end I only took two modules - if I'd taken more I could have eventually got an MSc, but my intention was really to swot up on computing after a career change rather than actually get another qualification. I did find it hard to balance the studying with my job and family commitments, but if you're determined and self-disciplined then you can succeed.
