Foreign currency check deposit with no fee

Hi,
I'm moving to Australia next month (from France) and am receiving monthly US dollar checks (as a member of the Amazon Affiliates program). In Australia, I will have an Australian checkings account.
My question is : How can I deposit the USD money on my Australian checkings accounts while incurring as little fees as possible ? (When I deposited my first USD check in my French bank account, they took a 10% fee !)
I guess if I just deposit the check directly at the Australian bank, I'll suffer from a bad conversion rate and a hefty flat fee. What is the least expensive way then ? Is there an online tool that allows for no-fee check deposit + currency conversion + money transfer or something like that ?
Surely, I am not the only person in that situation...
Thanks in advance for the help.

You could be right, though at any one point in time someone moving from France to Australia receiving a cheque made out in USD might feel a bit lonely.
Assume you will have to pay a fee and not get the best exchange rate. Anything better will just be a pleasant surprise.0
