Parking Ticket Appeal Chance?

I got a PCN (from Council) the other day for finishing late at work. had parked my car in an area at about 18:45 which has an overnight period that parking is free (6pm until 8am). This is frequently the case, as I work nights for a bookmaker as an In Play Sports Trader (specifically for US Sports). This means I compile and offer odds on the company's website for an event while it is currently taking place. The nature of the length of the game(s) I'm covering mean my shifts fluctuate, but having worked in this position for over a year I have never finished after 8am.
However on this exception, the Toronto Blue Jays at San Diego Padres game which started at 03:05 lasted for 17 innings - an exceptional long time for a baseball game. I am unable to simply leave my post because of the time, and unfortunately this led to me returning to my vehicle slightly too late. I got a parking ticket at 08:21, I didn't return much later so the sharks must have been circling!
The PCN however didn't describe the grounds under which I might appeal though which the guide on this site said might invalidate the ticket. The amount of depth it went into was "If you believe the penalty should not be paid and wish to challenge this PCN", which to me hardly describes any grounds for an appeal. But have no idea how strong an argument that is.

Your argument about being detained at work will NOT win an appeal. But you may as well try something as a first appeal seeing as you'll have noticed from the back of the PCN that the Council probably re-offer the discount if they reject an early challenge (received before day 14).
Nowt to lose then - but what to appeal on?
Put a picture of both sides of the PCN and a photo of the bay itself (or a Google StreetView link directly to the signs/lines), on pepipoo forum:

They can get most people off most Council PCNs and will also tell you if they see nothing to appeal on. The PCN small print and the signs/lines are the place to start.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Oh I know that being stuck at work isn't an excuse, just sucks that it wasn't my fault.
Will do the things you have suggested though.0
