    Any LED blinking or bleeps?

This actually appears to be a common problem with this machine, with no obvious solution.

No just whirring. I click caps lock and the light goes on, clicked num lock and the same, also the one at the bottom is lit up. Can't see any problems apart from black screen. Arhhhh

At the bottom on right hand side their is 3 white led buttons. The first 2 are on and the third is blinking. Don't what it is but looks like circle stacked up on each!

Sounds like the hard drive/optical drive light. Is it a repetitive blinking or more random/occasional blinking?

Can you look very closely at the screen to see if there is any feint image, perhaps also while shining a torch on the screen?

Just for information, do you have a cable to connect the laptop to a separate monitor or TV should it be necessary?

Thank you Onzey for all your help and all the others on here your a fab team.

    ok so here goes:
I took out the battery, slid the little black dots off the lower part of the screen either side to reveal screws. undid both screws and then gently popped the front cover off the screen itself. started at the lower right hand corner and gently went around popping it off.
When it was off completely I saw a little silver magnet stuck on a connector tape or whatever it's called so picked it off and took a look at the front cover i had just taken off and in the middle of the lower part there is a little gap just big enough for this to fit in. so popped the silver magnet back in there. fixed it all together again and hey presto!

    It Works

    Great news! Well done.:j

I'd just put together a post with various things, which was going to include this link about the lid actuator switch.

Won't bother with the rest now! :rotfl:
