P60 and tax credits

My husband and i have just signed our annual declaration for tax credits. He started a new job 5 weeks ago. His old employer has just sent his p60 but has put a higher amount of earnings (£800 extra). What can i do about this as he would never give payslips. Should i inform the tax office? Thanks.

Your husband was legally entitled to pay slips. He should call his old employer and ask for some to be forwarded.

  • Thanks. We've tried and he refuses. Think he is evading the tax man.

So report him to the Tax man. Was he paid in cash, or into your bank account?

If he was paid in cash and there was no record of this.... your annual figure for your P60 will be a hell of a lot less :D

Thing is though... we know someone who was getting over £300 a week.... however... when they tried to remortgage it all came out that legally they were only getting about £100 a week.

OK, they got the £300... BUT... the pension they will get from the State will be alot less in the end!

If this man is fiddling, ask your bloke to contact ACAS... he is legally entitled to pay slips, after all.. what if he wanted to remortgage... or send them to CSA ... or Tax credits.. or anywhere?
  • Thanks for all the advice. He was paid in cash and some weeks he didn't get any money as he couldn't work due to the weather. He also wouldn't pay any holiday pay. I know what you are saying about wage slips as we needed some recently and he wouldn't give any. Will we be in trouble if we tell tax credits because we signed the annual declaration before he sent the P60? Do tax credits find out what he put on the P60? Sorry for going on but it's all a bit worrying.
