Scottish Power - moved house & switched to cash payment plan

I moved house on the 16th May and notified Scottish Power via their online form. I was expecting a simple change of address for supply and correspondence, and nothing more.

We have just returned home from a week away to find redirected post from SP and it looks like they've removed us from the Online Fixed Price Energy January 2014 and placed us on their Monthly Cash Payment Plan. (Their are no tariff details in the letter.)

I logged into my account and against each of gas & elec. it states 'Closed'.

I can't call them as they're closed Sundays (according to the letter they sent me) so I have emailed them.

Whilst I await contact from SP themselves, I thought I'd come here - is this how SP process change of addresses? Do they close the accounts and start new ones on standard tariffs? I'll be more than a little miffed if I've lost my Jan. '14 fix.

Not all suppliers move the tariffs, although if available still im sure they will put you on it
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

That's my worry - the tariff is no longer available. I've moved, why shouldn't the tariff 'move' with me? Nothing has changed but my address. And that's only 0.6 miles up the road.

You should have contacted the existing supplier(s) and provided meter reading(s) so that new account(s) could be set up in your name.

Your advice to SP has allowed them to close your previous account. Expect a final bill shortly (if not already provided)

Because it is not the same as, say, moving your Sky TV account.

When you move house, you 'inherit' the gas and electric provider to the new house. You have to provide your meter readings and details to the existing provider. Once you are registered with the existing provider you can then switch to Scottish Power, if you wish.

As Wywth says, you need to contact your existing supplier immediately. Presumably you did take meter readings on the day you moved in, so you have a start reading on which to calculate your consumption? You should also expect a final bill from SP for your old address.

You're right, it's not the same as changing address with Sky - but it's just as difficult, counter-intuitive and down-right annoying. (They screwed that up and I didn't get to keep my number either. So in that respect, they're similar.)

I've already had a final bill and it's been paid. I'm now on a monthly cash account and it gets paid in full at the end of each month by direct debit.

Hi I'm not totally sure from your posts if you are an SP customer at your new address. But I can confirm that The Online Fixed Price January 2014 tariff does end when you move house. Therefore you would need to sign up for a new tariff at the new property. Contact us via our profile if we can be of specific help with your accounts. If you are with us and you are on Monthly Cash we can definitely find you a better rate than that.

    Hope this helps.
