Going to HALVE my debts by age 30!

Deep breath! Ok.
I have been reading the forums on and off for roughly 6 months now. I have decided I want to halve my debts by the time I reach my 30th birthday. I think this is a realistic figure to aim for - my total debt is roughly £18,000. (Will have proper count-up when I have heard back from all my creditors with accurate balances and add to my signature!). My 30th Birthday is 12th July 2009.
By my reckoning, that gives me just under 26 months to reach my goal of £9000 (approx). Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong in any of my workings out - my fiance (ex-accountant!) despairs of my maths sometimes!!:o
If I can pay off any more by then - brilliant!
Will check in regularly and keep you posted on my progress. Wish me luck!

Hi Kat
Sounds like you're motivation has been similar to mine. I saw 30 looming - July 2008 - and decided that I had to get a grip on things! My debt is far higher than yours but like you trying to clear as much as possible for the 'Big 30'. Perhaps naively I see that as me becoming a real adult.

Thanks everyone! I think that as my fiance and I are planning on getting married in the next 2 years, and we're buying our first house together (well, he is, Mortgage companies tend to laugh and point if I ask them to lend me money!) I thought I should get to grips on my finances so that I can pay my share. Don't want him to think I expect him to pay for everything!0
