Warranty not covering trade use

Options
a local store has told me that certain power tools are sold without a warranty or guarantee as it is being purchased through a trade account and is not covered for trade use. is this right?

    If they say it is, then that's the case.

    It does not affect your statutory rights under the sale of goods act, so you're not completely lost, but the warranty is offered in addition to those rights and can have any conditions attached that the issuer cares to attach.

    Now, under the sale of goods act it must be fit for the purpose for which it's sold, and price will have a bearing in what's appropriate. A grinder sold for £20 by argos would not be expected to last the same as a £300 commercial model.

    If it is a business transaction. For commercial use, then yes standard warranties won't apply.

    also bear in mind your sale of goods act rights can be restricted in a business to business sale if the restriction is 'reasonable'.
