I'm not doing anything wrong? They were happy to accept credit card as deposit so I would have been covered under S75 from that anyway.
.........But you didn't pay the deposit by credit card did you - they do not have to accept any future payments by credit card from you if they have a mind to -- but you do have to pay the balance or you lose the deposit.

    Hello fellow red :)

They never said how they wanted the balance paid (apart from trying to sell finance) and I only mentioned paying by debit card, they didn't seem bothered. As I said its as much as my loss of £250 to me as the 10k sale is to them and I'm sure the sales guy I dealt with today won't be bothered. If I have to pay £500 on credit then so be it but I doubt ill have to.

    Morning all.

I have spoken to the salesman at the garage and he has no issue with paying part credit card part debit to complete the sale.

Thanks again for your replies, I hope this post sets your mind at ease especially the posters who thought they wouldn't allow it. :)

Thanks for the confirmation, I couldn't see why there would be a problem anyway if you are paying their costs. The dealership isn't liable for the section 75 protection so won't care and it would just be another transaction for the bank.

You're spot on. Dealer took £100 on the credit card with the remaining on the debit card with absolutely no questions asked, they weren't bothered but there again they had no reason to be.

Does section 75 cover second hand cars? As i am in the process of buying a second hand car, and its only provided with a 3 month warranty.

It covers the purchase, doesn't matter if its new or second hand(I think).

It will cover new or used, just the timescales over which you will have significant rights will be significantly shorter.

You can hold the credit card company jointly liable for the 3 month warranty any problems after that it may be difficult to prove are other than a wear and tear issue.

What if the fault was there at the time of purchase?

If you can prove the fault was there you would be covered - if not you wouldn't.
