in Credit cards
Hi All,
I am new to this forum and hope to learn allot of knowledge to hopefully make me more cash rich and get a good - solid credit score.
To start of... I am 21 Years young and have no outstanding loans or debts. I do have a little £100 overdraft just in-case... I do have quite a few direct debits - phone,iPad,gym, keep, train pass, contact lenses etc.
I have a VERY poor credit rating, but I like to think it is down to not actually having any form of credit. I would like to get a credit card to pay for things throughout the month and then pay off IN FULL at the end of every month.
I do not have a clue about APR or any of the other lingo but just want a card to build up my score. However, the cards I have been pre-approved for ( Capital One Classic) say they there is a minimum spend of £200 which is quite allot for me to spend. Is there one with no minimum? I only need about £1k top limit.
Thank you for taking your time to read this and thanks in advance for your help and advice,
JB

The APR won't matter, since you're only going to spend what you can comfortably repay a month later aren't you?I do not have a clue about APR or any of the other lingo but just want a card to build up my score.
You've misunderstood whatever you've read. More likely, for a first card, there's a maximum credit limit of £200...which means you can't spend more than £100 per month. However, the cards I have been pre-approved for ( Capital One Classic) say they there is a minimum spend of £200 which is quite allot for me to spend.
All of them!Is there one with no minimum?
You may not get £1K on a first card.I only need about £1k top limit.
First port of call should be your bank...the one that receives your income. If they say no, then go with Capital One, Vanquis, Aqua, et al.0 -
Vanquis was my first card and I got that with no credit history except briefly having a small overdraft, and without being on the electoral roll. The perception of the aqua card around here is that it's not actually that easy for first timers to get, which was my experience also.
The only thing to watch with vanquis is they clearly sell your details onto third parties as I get marketing calls around every three months from someone who claims to be vanquis, but is very obviously not.
Really though there isn't that much choice. Own bank thing didn't work for me either, they just credit scored me as if I was a new customer then told me to bog off (and did the same thing when I appealed).Oh, you wee bazza!0 -

That's a bit of an unjustified response - there are some seriously useful and important aspects to credit cards. If you choose to misuse them, you'll pay the price - but you'll never learn how to use them sensibly if you don't try.
As YorkshireBoy said, try your bank first and then, failing that, subprime cards such as Vanquis, Capital One Classic and Barclaycard Initial. You can preapply to BC which is well worth doing to avoid a wasted strike on your credit file.0 -
Not true, you can get out of it by showing restraint on how you use the card.Avoid getting into credit trap, once you are in there is no way outta it.
OP: As for the £1,000 limit on a first card, it is doable, my first card came with £1,500 which I'd consider quite good for a first card
