Worktop thickness and kitchen tap?

We are having a wood work top installed with our kitchen soon, the thickness is about 4cm.
I have seen a tap I like but it specifies that its for worktops up to 30mm thickness
Why is this, could there be a way of using that tap with a thicker worktop?

Have you got a link to the tap?. It may be that the end of the tap isn't long enough to go through a 38mm worktop and get the fixing nut on the end.
If this is the reason then your kitchen fitter may be able to router (cut) the area around the tap on the underside of the worktop to take the tap.You certainly can do this on timber worktops and also on some solid surface worktops.0 -
Can you Get the fitter to router out the underside of the worktop where the tap goes0

is this all he would need to do?0 -
If you are doing it DIY and don't have a router you can achieve the same result by using a Forstner or spade bit in an electric drill. Even a hole saw will do but the waste would have to be chiseled out.
Another option if it is a monobloc tap is to extend the length of the fixing bolt. Usually around M8 thread it may be possible to remove and replace with longer threaded rod or extend with a barrel nut and additional rod.
Edit. Following link to Item No 110972879109 there is a further link to an installation guide. Appears this requires the fitting of the stud to the body of the tap so all you would need is a stud at least 10mm longer than that supplied.0 -
Alternatively, could the tap be fitted to your sink instead of the worktop?
Lovely taps by the way, can`t believe how cheap they are. I have my eye on a spray rinse tap that is over £300 :eek:0 -
Personally I would stay away from eBay taps that cheap( china rubbish ) you will end up getting a year or so out of them and an expensive tap change if its a Belfast sink arrangement .
As the others have said either rout out to the desired thickness or get a longer threaded bar, this is the reason for the 30 mm, the bar is short.0 -

I did wonder about that. Its a one and a half bowl inset ceramic sink so the tap hole is in the worktop not the sink
trouble is, i am really having trouble finding a tap i like, i only want lever ones and dont want shiny chrome0 -
There are pleanty of pewter and brushed steel out there just stay away from to good to be true taps, ebay chineese imports.
Lots of oil on the wood for the first few mths.0 -
right, i dont know what possessed me, but I bought this today

we paid 225, not the 275 stated in the article, but i have now found it online for 190 plus 5 delivery, so 30 less overall than the one ive bought
now firstly, do you think i can take the tap back and if so, do be honest and say its because i found it cheaper elsewhere, or just say ive changed my mind?
secondly, are these water filters all they're cracked up to be, we are in a very hard water area0
