HSBC have always had a conservative lending policy (Asian roots). They've come to the fore as other lenders have fallen by the wayside since the credit crash of 2007. Leaving HSBC as one of the largest in the market.

    No harm in applying.

HSBC is probably the most *british*, if not Scottish, bank on the planet.

Exactly as you would expect from a bank called The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation...

Some of the most culturally British institutions and practices thrived and maintained their characteristics overseas in far flung parts of the empire specifically because they were outside domestic changes in fashion, culture, society and economics.

Does anyone have any more comment to make on my situation? Particularly in terms of my student loan or my credit card usage?

    Thanks :)
  • Hi Bill,

If you phone up then they will give you an indication of what they will lend you. I did this yesterday and after a painful 55 minutes on the phone they offered me a mortgage with a 2 * salary multiplier, which wasn' t enough for the flat I want to buy.

I am looking at the Coventry now (through a broker) and there rates are actually better for me than HSBC would have been but their 90% rates are higher than HSBC.

    Cheers,

Just to update everyone. I went in today and spoke to an advisor who completed a DIP. It seems that the process is in two stages. Today was a simple DIP with the full mortgage application carried out separately.

My appointment for the second part is this Saturday. Fingers crossed. I will update as/when.

Hi. Have my appointment Tomorow at HSBC. Last week I was given a big check list of things to bring in, most of which I have managed to obtain.

However I am lacking bank statements. I have the last one but not he to months prior. I realise that they are essential to the process but with no printer at home it's a bit of a problem.

    Do they take email attachments?

Cheap to buy, and easy to install.
