RAC 5 Start cover -being had??
Options
Hi
About 18 months ago we bought a second hand Astra and paid extra to extend the included RAC Motorway 5 star warranty of 6 months to 2 years. We got this for peace of mind really and to avoid the worry of being hit by a large bill. We were given the impression when we bought it that it would cover most faults.
The other day it broke down with warning lights going off all over the place. The garage said that the problem we had was caused by the ignition switch and barrel which had then damaged the starter.
When we bought the policy we were told verbally the policy covers the 'ignition system' and the ignition coil, electric ignition module and starter motor (including pre-engaged solenoid) are all listed as covered in the documentation. But we've been told this fault is not covered as the barrel is not listed as a covered part. Isn't this part of the ignition?? We've had to pay up for the moment as my bf needs the car for work but are really unhappy that we seem to have forked out for a worthless policy.
I'm not really very car minded but would really appreciate any advice from anyone who has had a similar problem. I can see that ignition barrel is not listed but are they just splitting hairs? Is the ignition barrel part of the ignition module / system? Anyone had any luck challenging these decisions and what to do next?
thanks
