After 4 months searching I have received and accepted a job offer.
I don't start for a couple of weeks and have a sign on day a couple of days before I start.
Can anyone conform when I actually sign off? I obviously won't be job searching for the next two weeks so do I tell the JC now or do I tell them just before I start?
Thanks all.
If you really don't intend to look for another job in the next two weeks, then you should sign off as of now.
I would, however, advise you to continue looking, even if only for temp work. This is not least because, though you have a written offer and full details of a start date and so on, it doesn't mean that there is 100% certainty of you actually starting. The amount of certainty in part depends on the industry sector in which you are to work.0 -
I informed them the day before i started work.
Then i got a letter telling me i had not signed on.
Wonder if i'm still sanctioned for not signing?:D0 -
The reason I say wait until the day you start work is you never know what may happen on that first day at work. It could all go horribly wrong and you are then faced with the hassle of making a rapid reclaim etc.0

I agree - if you can get away with it go for it!
even if you try and push for even a couple of days grace you have to show proof of why you can't attend to sign - that's where they now get you - Beware
Some are just unlucky! - everytime I've got a new job, kid you not my sign on date has also the first day can you believe it!
I did come across 1 employer not so long back who volunteered the following during interview, reckoned they had an agreement (may have been local JC only to them not sure) with the Job Centre - apparently all new starters could still sign for their first week or may have been longer then this I've forgotten exactly how long! I remember thinking how good really surprised, may be worth checking OP if your new employer runs anything similar?0 -
Thanks for the input everyone. I shall keep up the search in the meantime just in case anything horrible happens. Cheers all
