slow banking at halifax?

OK I switched to the Halifax reward account and not used it much yet, but yesterday I transferred money in via faster payment and it showed within minutes I then paid a credit card from the Halifax account, using my old Santander account or even older nationwide account such a payment would show next working day at latest, but its not yet been applied to the account. I also again via faster payments moved another 500 into the account today at about 13:00 this still isn't showing in the account. Is this normal for Halifax or should I be worried something has gone wrong somehow? Seems a very poor service so far.

The Halifax credit card credits the money faster payment and the available credit will be adjusted although the outstanding balance stays the same. Just doesn't show on the transaction list for a few days.

    That's my experience anyway.

I've been banking with Halifax for years and faster payments enter my account typically within 2 hours. I used to have a Santander account and I can agree with your above statement. Nationwide is a building society so transfers normally take a while and santander transfer money when it's suitable for them. The problem isn't Halifax it's the bank where the payment is being sent from.

My partners HSBC and Barclays accounts transfer within minutes normally and definitely appear in my account within the same day.

    Hope this helps :)

    Incorrect.

Whilst Nationwide is a building society, they are a member of the clearing system and faster payments are as quick as anywhere else - both inward and outward faster payments typically take under 5 seconds to complete.

Yes true, however no doubt when things don't go right they use the excuse that they are not a proper bank! :rotfl:

Is this the first time you've done a FPS transfer to the credit card account from Halifax? If so then it may simply be slower because they are doing some additional checks the first time, and once they are happy with the transaction it'll go faster. Doing it on a Friday means they have until the end of day on Monday to get the money to the receiving account.

It's nothing to do with first time

As Dave said and is quite correct the faster payment although may not show as a transaction on your statement immediately does however adjust your available credit accordingly. As can the same be said if you spend on the Halifax credit card.

At least I qualified my statement. You have no basis for being so categorical with what you say; you may be right or you may not, only time will tell. But to deny the possibility of a slower first transaction is going too far, as there are many occasions where this does happen. And we have no idea who the OP's CC issuer is so mention of a Halifax CC is likely to be irrelevant.

How right you are. I was with the Nationwide and it was a breath of fresh air to leave those clowns and go with a proper bank.

The platform that Halifax, BOS, Lloyds and TSB use is good with keeping the user informed with a clear message after a FP attempt.

Does the OP recall what the screen said when the payment was made?
