2 x Adult 2 x Children holiday comps

Options
How many perfect 2 adult 2 children families are there?
Is 2 children the average these days or hasn't the average gone up to almost 3 children?
Seems to be a lot of comps recently where the t&cs state exactly 2 adults and 2 children.
Pah!

Add to the fact that those children normally have to be between 2 & 12

Before my youngest was born, I'd enter those comps and hope they'd accept my eldest (12) as an adult and we'd leave the OH home to look after Snoopy (our dog) - but I think it's silly that they state that on a "family" holiday!
    Thanks to all posters :A

When I had my first (of two) children I was told that everyone always quotes 2.4, but now it is more like 1.8 or 1.9 children per family, and that most families also consist of two adults. I just googled it and here it is from around then. No idea if it has changed much since then, but I doubt it would be significant if it has.

Just enter & hope to win.

Then try & negotiate an acceptable outcome.

eg I won a trip to Vancouver for two adults.I paid a child's airfare & sorted a hotel with two doubles. All I paid was the airfare.
  • I have 3 children and enter those comps. I just think that if I were to win I would add on my third child at an expense to me. Not won a holiday yet though so not sure on if I would be allowed to do that. Will hopefully find out one day. Though Im always saying to my husband that in a few years time there are loads of breaks to enter for 2 people.

I have 3 kids, although the eldest is 13, and nearly always avoid holiday / family day out comps, for the precise reason that 99% of the time they're for 2 adults and 2 kids. I know some of you say enter anyway, but I always think of how gutted I'd be if I were to win and then have the promoter say we couldn't go!! I'm a bit of a coward, I know!! I just always think if it clearly states in the t&c that it's for a family of four, then it would be cheeky to ask for five to go!!

Here's me thinking I was a total mess. Turns out that my 2 adult & 2 children family is the perfect family.

Not that I've ever won a holiday comp.

I keep trying to convince Mrs MB that I will one day

To answer the original question of how many "perfect" families of four there are.... I can think of maybe a maximum of 6 family groups that I know within my friends & extended family, who have 2 kids - the vast majority have upwards of 3, although I also know a handful who just have one... I wouldn't say that 2 was the "norm" though...?

My family 2+3 deserves holiday too so I enter them anyway and if I win one day I'm ready to pay expenses for 3rd child, it would be really not fair to disqualified bigger family.

2012 stats put the average at 1.7 children or 1.8 for married couples.
