My wife has just taken out life assurance. Reading the clauses, payment or claim will be made to the legal successor? Does that mean immediate family i.e - husband or children. Does the legal successor need to be named in a Will?
(we have just come back to the UK after many years, we currently do not have a Will. We plan to organise a Will when we find a house)

I think it is the person named in a will if one is made out or in the absence of a will normal inheritancy rules will apply i.e spouse or if not married your children.
Always best to have a will, if you want to have certainty about your estate after your death. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
