PPI on double glazing deal

I was pressured into taking PPI as part of a double glazing finance deal, on the basis that by taking PPI the company offered a £500 discount on the overall cost. I have lodged a claim and they have offered a partial settlement (PPI premiums paid less the discount). I have asked the ombudsman informally whether this is not mis-selling in itself, and they suggested I ask the DG company. Naturally they say it is not, as I could have avoided the PPI by forgoing the discount offered. The DG co say they will withdraw the offer if I submit a formal application to the ombudsman. Has anyone else had this situation, and what was the outcome? I feel they are trying to scare me into accepting a reduced settlement!

Actually it isn't. Firms are allowed to offer discounted packages. However, the FOS doesnt regulated double glazing. Just the PPI side. The DG co say they will withdraw the offer if I submit a formal application to the ombudsman.
Which they are allowed to do with goodwill offers.Has anyone else had this situation, and what was the outcome? I feel they are trying to scare me into accepting a reduced settlement!
There doesnt appear to be anything wrong in what they are doing. You agreed to buy PPI and get a £500 discount. You are now saying you didnt agree to buy PPI. Therefore they are quite rightly taking back the £500 discount.
Remember that the complaint you are making is to be put in the position you would have been had you never taken the PPI. So, the £500 discount being deducted seems quite fair and logical.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
