Can seller re-list before 7-day payment period is up?

Hello

I bought an item on ebay and have had trouble with my paypal account so have been unable to pay until today (seventh day). Just as I logged on to pay I noticed an email from the seller today saying that he has had to relist as payment not received. I realise that I should have communicated earlier (I forgot to get in touch with seller in what has been a nightmarishly busy week :o ), and that the delay has been annoying, but shouldn't I have been allowed the full 7 days to pay? I've contacted seller to explain, but the item is already re-listed. Should I offer to pay his relist fee as a goodwill gesture. Or should I forget it and walk away...?

Thanks

Annie

The seller should recieve his fees back but you may get a non payment strike against you. I would put it down to experience and walk away

Personally, I would chalk this up to experience and walk away.

As a buyer I try to pay or at least communicate asap. I can understand if your seller had been angry by lack of communication but relisting without even emailing you is a bit harsh. Although it does depend on their terms & conditions I suppose. A seller can relist after 3 days if they feel like it, as contact is recommended by ebay. They don't have to give you the full 7 days to pay if they don't want to, each to their own.

As a seller I would always wait at least 5/7 days and then try to contact the buyer. 2 weeks would be long enough to wait, unless I know different, I mean, you can't wait forever.

As i said, I'd walk away. If he leaves feedback, then politely reply to it, stating the facts and leave it at that.

This will only happen once the Seller has opened an Unpaid Item Dispute and waited another 7 days for payment.

If you really want the item, the Seller should send out what you have paid for.

Depends on how much you want the item and how much creeping you are prepared to do to the seller. he would have been well within his rights to open a dispute today, after 7 days non-communication, I would. Just be very apologetic and appeal to his better nature. If he wants his first lot of fees back he would have to open a dispute and get you to pay up or not proceed anyway.

One of my buyers has had problems with paypal, and didn't tell me!!! I emailed them mid week to find out how they were planning to pay, incase they had posted a cheque...

My arguement being, yes you should have made contact with your seller, but equally good communications work both ways, and the seller should have tried to contact you before relisting...

    Point this out!

Thanks everyone. I don't quite know what to do. 'My ebay' still is giving me the option of paying, which I am now able to do, and I really want the item and have said as much in a nice email to seller. I'm guessing it's safest not to pay unless l I hear back from seller as the amount is over £100?

Has the original seller actually told you the item is re-listed?
    1) it might be
    2) (S)he might have more than one of the same item to sell.

If the seller hasn't contacted you about the item, I would pay and expect delivery as per any other transaction, especially if the 7 days is not up, as they can not start a non-paying bidder against you... You might get a neg for late payment, which IMHO would be harsh, but you can always do the same back.

I would hardly think that the Seller would be willing to lose a sale of this amount of money.

If you pay and the Seller doesn't want the money they can simply refund you!

A lot of people now seem to wait until Day 7 to pay anyway so this wouldn't be unusual.

Maybe it is an inexperienced Seller ?

If it's an item you really want and you have the chance of paying, then email the seller to give him notice that you will be paying.

Like it's been mentioned upthread, has the item actually been relisted or was it a threat to do so? If it has been relisted and the seller doesn't accept your payment it's a waste of time and effort.

Thanks everyone. The seller has got back in touch to say it's OK to pay - phew! He said he 'had to do that' because he gets lots of bad buyers. I guess, as said above it was bad communication both ways... I'm still happy to buy and really want the item. His feedback is really good, so I'm not worried now. I guess it was just a funny idea of shock tactics on his part.

BTW, the item is relisted, but he has a good turnover of stock and so this is a different item, I'm sure...

Oh well, I never intended not to pay, so no harm done...I genuinely forgot that I hadn't told him. I'll make a mental note for next time! I forget that on ebay it's different to dealing with shops. I'm not a naturally chatty-to-strangers person and mostly I buy from real shops (and you don't have to send a 'thanks-I'm paying now' email to Mr Tesco, do you?:D ).

But there you go, lesson learned; I'll be more polite in future!

    Thanks again everyone!
