in Credit cards
i want to apply for a credit card just to built my credit score. i have checked my credit report and its average so who will give a card?? m banking with halifax and barclays and halifax has said no just at looking at my profile with them which shows what product i am eligible for?? i am currently checking equifax report too which should be with me by next week.
shld i get a store card?? is that easier to obtain with average score??
the whole idea for the card is to do day to day grocery pay back what i spent . no overspending. want 0%. just want to build credit score.
any idea

Ignore the fact that your report says average, it's the content of the report what counts, not the score or their interpretation of it.
Are you on the electoral roll? Have you got any missed payments, defaults or CCJs?
Halifax will be able to see if you're eligible for anything on their system based on your history with them, so since they've said no try barclaycard's pre application checker to see if you're eligible for any of their cards - they offer the Initial card for credit building which may suit your circumstances.0 -
Make sure you get on the electoral roll if you are not already. Going on there changed my credit applications from being mostly failures or referrals to instant acceptances pretty much overnight. It's got to be one of the biggest factors in credit scoring and identity checking so worth having even if you don't vote.Oh, you wee bazza!0

Don't mind me, I'm just bumping the thread above the kitchen spammer........ Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0

i have checked with my council and they have confirmed my name is on electoral roll.in the process of checkin with equifax but due to some identification verification they want me to send my id and address confirmation docs which i will next week.
i dont have any missed payment default or ccj0 -
i checked on barclays eligibility checker and it gave me options
Barclaycard Platinum Purchase Credit Card
Barclaycard Platinum Simplicity Credit Card
Barclaycard Initial Credit Card
Barclaycard Cashback
Barclaycard Freedom Retail Rewards
so which one to go for ideally i want 0% which is initial but its for 3 months only. so if i spend on mydaily grocery and pay back that amount every month will there be ay other charges il have to pay??? i just dont want any hidden charges m not prepared for cuz budget is really tight. then i plan to cancel the card after 3 months or upgrade to 0% for 12 months or something is that possible0 -
I think you might be getting confused with the 0% concept.
As long as you pay off the full balance each month you will be charged zero interest (Even if the card is say 29%). You pay interest on any remaining balance you do not pay off (Nothing if you have a 0% card)
Capital One may be worth a look (I'm a student with no job and have one with them although no perks such as cashback) and have it purely for building credit (and emergencies)0
