    Chrissie,

I really do understand your point of view. I am not wishing to be argumentative,
but ...............this is called living. Think of the alternatives! Live and let live, but if it really really bothers you, go out every third Saturday. Problem solved.

Very selective about what bit of my post you quoted weren't you? ;)

I notice you didn't quote me saying:

"But I wouldn't complain, as this is not what I would call neighbour problems or ridiculous and unacceptable levels of nuisance; it's just being in a neighbourhood."

    How very convenient. :T

The problem is, you can't please eveyone.
We have a neighbour who has outdoor parties keeping everyone awake till 4am then has a dicky fit if anyone dares mow their lawn at 10am when they are asleep.
Maybe your old neighbours keep the kiddies awake late at night sometimes, you just have to live and let live.
I'm amazed they think you can do anything about it.

My neighbor opposite (we are 2 semis in own grounds, with another two in front, also in own, separate to ours ground), had 4 dogs. They kept them in a huge cage/kennel thing at the side of the house. They left them from 6:30am to around 7 or 8pm!!! During that time they barked, howled, whined, yelped and ruffed themselves stupid. They also burn things in their garden, ruining my line drying clothes. Oh and they take up a million parking spots etc. Annoying as h8ll!! I had word. It all chilled out, now stuff only gets burned every other sunday, I don't peg it out then lol. Think they need to tell them straight themselves. A reasonable person will listen, think (what they agree with) and come to an agreement.
Maybe the tenant could agree with the neighbor to make things easier. She is probably aware her kids are like elephants in the morning (I know mine are....(;))
The feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!

The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea

what would they have done had the lady purchased the property?

tell them to do that !!!
  • Tell them there is nothing you can do. If they want they can complain to environmental health but noise from children isn't covered as a nuisance so they will not do anything.

Parties until 4am are a nose nuisance.

Thanks all ... we got on well with these neighbours when we lived in the house, and are still FB friend with them, and frankly it would be nice to stay on good terms with them. Since we don't live nearby any more, we do actually want to hear if this (or any other) tenant is e.g. trashing the house or whatever. Though I really don't think that's likely with the current tenant.

But agree with most of you that it's not our place to intervene in this issue in any way. These are all mid-terrace houses, so you do hear the neighbours a bit, it's unavoidable. It's a bit odd, becasue the neighbours on the other side are far more of a problem I would have thought - when we were there they were constantly out in the back garden in the summer having barbeques and getting blind drunk till 2am/3am, having loud conversations about !!!!!! and smoking copious amounts of skunk. A bit of noise from some kids is on the "irritating but not outrageous" end of the scale to me.

Anyway, we had a word with said former neighbour and suggested to her that going through us would seem like going behind the tenant's back and wouldn't be likely to get things off on the right foot - so she's agreed that its better for her to take it up directly. If it comes back to us again, then we'll point her to the council and let her find out from them what does and doesn't constitute "noise nuisance."

btw my view is that neighbours having your 'phone/email details is the cheapest insurance going.. they tell you things you might not otherwise find out about for months, even if it is occasionally annoying,,,
