Fair Quote for bodywork repair?
I've managed to pick up a sizeable dent in the front wheel arch of my skoda citigo. It'll need a replacement panel, and having tried a couple of authorised Skoda places (which I would prefer to use because it's still under warranty), I've been quoted £600 inclusive of VAT. Does this look like a reasonable price?
Thanks in advance.

Yes.
I had to get a new wing on my week old passat for a similar reason and it cost nigh on £1000 through the main dealer.0 -
Seems fair enough.
But I have found body work costs vairy considerably. For a small dent in a bonet ( from a falling tile) I had quotes between £150 and £450. So I would shop around a bit more.0 -

No, it's a big dent, so it's a case of replacing the panel rather than repairing it (which is presumably what you're talking about)0 -

shop around, how much is the panel? have you rung around skoda dealer parts departments to get a price of the part, it wouldnt surprise me if the part was around £400 inc vat and the rest is labour and paint.0

Sounds like a fair price TBH. Bear in mind that to repair this properly, they will need to blend the front door when replacing a wing, it's not simply a case of painting and fitting a wing. So together with parts that sounds about right. The thing about wanting to use a main dealer because it's still under warranty is IMO a bit of a red herring. When getting quotations, ask the garage what sort of warranty they give with their work. If the guarantee is longer than the remaining term of your Skoda warranty, then it's not an issue.0 -
Have these Skoda dealers go their own bodyshops or are they subbing out to an independent ?
If it's the latter go direct and save some money0 -
Chippie is right in that the adjacent panels will require blending. Most people have no comprehension as to how labour intensive body repairs are. Regarding costs, around 40% of an average repair (2.5 panels) is made up of labour, around 3-4% is dry goods costs and the rest is normally parts and paint.
Don't be fooled into thinking that the cheapest route is necessarily the best deal, far from it. Get recommendations from friends if you can on where to take your car or you could end up with a really disappointing job. Also don't get too hung up on the appearance of the bodyshop, I see around 140 shops every 8 weeks, some look all singing all dancing but my own car goes to a tiny backstreet place that is basically an overgrown shed yet the work they turn out is excellent.
£600 sounds like it is in the right region to me assuming you get a decent job done.0 -
Paint is now eyewateringly expensive. There's a mark on the roof of Mrs V's Corsa. My local garage said that paint for the roof would be £100-£150 and the total repair around £500. As it's about 1/4 of the value of the car it's not really worth it.The man without a signature.0
