Hi,
I am looking to have an extension done in the near future and actually came across this company when I went to the Governnments Planning portal (http://www.planningportal.gov.uk) - they adertise on there these days!! "The Planning Portal is working hard to generate revenue to offset the costs of running its core business which will help to reduce our dependency on central government funding."
In any case, I'm not sure whether these companies are vetted at all before their adverts appear and i can't find out much about them from the tinterweb.
They manufacture most of their work as SIPs offsite and then put it together when your proposed area of the extension has been prepared. So a lot more efficient...just need assurances that they are reliable and are perhaps members of the FMB (of which they are not) or similar.
They have their own site - very impressive with some testimonials, gallery etc.
http://www.homeextensionsltd.co.uk/
Full address is given on their site as:
The Home Extensions Company
Head Office and Production Facility
Unit C12 Sandy Business Park,
Gosforth Close, Sandy, Beds SG19 1RB
But they dont have a Company number on their site and their name does not show in companies house as a going concern. Perhaps they are trading under a different name.
Checkng the WHOIS of the url reveals that the domain name is owned by
SIP GARDEN LODGES LIMITED
And they have been tading since 2009 as manufacturing Garden lodges etc so they seem to have expanded into house extensions since then. So they do have some history at least.
I've emailed them in the meantime and am awaiting their response, but just wondering whether anyone has heard of them, used them at all?
Thanks,
OB

I've just come across them too and would be interested in any opinions0

They are not listed on www . uksips . org
This is the UK trade association for SIP panels.
Sorry for the non-clickable url but it won't let me put in a hyperlink!0 -
Okay, I got a reply from them. Their Ltd number is SC 355125 and the company name is Home Extensions Ltd. The 'SC' denotes they are a Scottish registered company. I still don't find their details at Companies House though.
Regarding the SIPs organisation, I think that was set up fairly recently, and when I trawled through their list, they don't actually have that many members as of today.0 -
There's an interesting podcast and article here about a SIP case study:

We've just had a Garden Room built by this company recently. WOULD NOT recommend them. The floor has been built very poorly and has huge lumps in it. We told them at the outset that the room would house a pool table and questioned whether additional foundations would be needed. We we're told the floor is solid and this would not be required. The pool table has sunk into the floor as well as the huge lumps. They tried putting it right once but this has not worked and they are now telling us that we will have to pay for the remedial work.
The management side of the company are very aggressive in terms of seeking payment and have not been pleasant to deal with. We we're told the building would be taken down unless we paid the final instalment, despite there being a clear fault with the floor.
Avoid them!0 -

Avoid them![ Yes definitely they are rubbish, their ground work on our extension was rubbish and uneven, walls out of line roof not the right one and poorly done. Their 10 year guarantee is written in one of their companies names that no longer exists, they gave us receipts with false VAT numbers, take them to court or contact CAB and trading standards. I have and I am taking them to the small claims courts. Their director has resigned like most of there staff. lets keep in touch and stop this rogue trader.]
REPLY ON BEHALF OH HOME EXTENSIONS COMPANY LIMITED:
"Out of a staff of 60 it just so happens that two people left the company. As for the roof and foundations, everything was passed by Independent Building Control.
We built an Extension which has been lived in it for almost a year, it passed Local Authority Building Control and Planning, it has full habitation and electrical certification and a 10 year new build warranty with the CPA. We have been back to this property approximately ten times snagging new items. We have never refused to return."0 -
