Petit Diable - metrocentre - no suit return

Hi, I've just tried to return a child's christening suit back to this shop and they will only offer me store credit or clothes exchange.
Theirs abit more to this: First we ordered the suit we wanted and paid for it a month ago which they said they had to order in. With 2 weeks to go we phoned the store and found that they were having trouble getting it in from their supplier and probably would not get it in time.
We went to the shop and found the suit in a smaller size with a different coloured tie, we were given that and we told them to phone us when and if the suit we ordered arrived.
As we expected and told of our concern to the shop keeper our baby has out grown the smaller suit and we would need to go back to the shop and try another one. But we found the original suit we wanted in the right size online with another company and bought that instead with the intention of refunding the smaller suit.
Do I have a leg to stand on in getting my money back? as we haven't actually received the product we originally paid for and where would I go from here?

Has the Christening now been and gone?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
No, because by taking the smaller one you formed a new contract. Store policy will now dictate your rights.0
