As the title says really, what is the UK version of "Notice of assessment"?
I completed my self assessment on-line, will I get anything through the post equivalent to a notice of assessment?
Thanks in advance

Might help if you said which country you expect a 'notice of assessment' from.
But as I understand it, you won't get anything through the post: when you submitted online you should have seen what you owed, and the dates by which you were due to pay both that and the current year's probable tax liability.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Possibly Ireland?
In the UK your self assessment return will generate a liability (or repayment). This will be added to your 'account' with HMRC which works in much the same way as a credit card account.0 -
Thanks sue, the notice of assessments I have seen in Australia/Canada/Ireland have all been the same, just a piece of paper confirming some of your tax details for the year.
I guess I will have to ring up and ask, just wanted to know beforehand what it was called exactly then I don't get passed through 100 departments before someone can help me.0 -

Not sure what you mean here! If you log on to the HMRC site under self-assessment as you did when filing your return you will see immediately the state of your account. Under one of the options you are able to pay online. In addition you will normally be sent a statement of your account each month while there remains a balance payable and outstanding.0 -
Thanks for the help everyone. There seems to be no name in the UK for this but I think I need to ask for a copy of my "calculation" for the year.
@nomunnofun - Yeah that is what I am after but a hard copy.
Ill give it a try.0 -

You can download and print a copy of your completed return.
You will get a statement later in the year giving details of tax you must pay or will be refunded.
Is this what you are after? HMRC will not send anything in the post just saying that your return has been received if you have filed online, because your account details and the reference number they provide online when you submit it make this obvious.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Perfect, this is exactly the thing I am looking for.
Now if only it could have been called what the rest of the world seems to call it instead of a cryptic number that would be just great
Thanks Dazed
@PlutoinCapricorn Thanks for the info as well, its frustrating that all the info is available online but I needed a hard copy, the SA302 seems to be it.0 -

No, as already explained , you have done an online tax return and all the details are there for you to print off, unless I am missing something , what more do you want? Thanks for the help everyone. As above, its sitting online waiting for you to print out.@PlutoinCapricorn Thanks for the info as well, its frustrating that all the info is available online but I needed a hard copy, the SA302 seems to be it.
A print off is a hard copy !!More useful links
Receiving your tax calculation
HMRC will only send you a paper tax calculation, called form SA302, if:- you sent in a paper tax return before 31 October and asked HMRC to work out your tax
- you made an amendment to a paper tax return
- you sent in a tax return but HMRC doesn't agree with your tax calculation
You don't appear to get an SA302 if you completed online !!0 -
