The type of the file system is NTFS
Cannot lock current drive

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts?

Re your suggestion to backup & factory restore -I did a full image backup to external hard drive a few weeks ago and nothing important
done on PC since, so definitely an option.

If you haven't already, uninstall Rapport & Defender & reboot and let chkdsk run.

It'll run when the computer restarts - it might take a while.

A factory restore would take it back to what it was like when you bought it, the acronis restore would take it back to when you did the backup, so 7 years of bloat would still be there

It won't let me uninstall anything in Safe mode:(.

Well I ran CHKDSK but script went so quickly at the end that I couldn't read it.

After CHKDSK finished, it rebooted in normal mode but is now stuck on 'Loading your personal settings'

Time for a new one or is it worth trying a factory reset? Assuming I can do that in safe mode?

Did anything in the dds reports give any clue as to the problem?
