Do I Really Need a Colour Cartridge to print in black and white?

Got a Epson Photo 915 which takes a black ink cartridge and also a 5 colour cartridge. The latter has just run out, but have tried to print a word document and even when selecting black/white it still chucks up an error message saying I have run out of ink. Anyway around this?

No guarantee it will work, but if the printer is 'not very clever' you might be able to take the colour cartridge out and put it back in again.student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0

If the printer uses basic cartridges, it will assume its a new one. If it uses the microchipped ones, it will know its been used before. However, you can get devices to reset the chips.
Never forget that the ink usage is calculated by software (not a dipstick!) and that printer manufacturers make their profits on the inks not the printers. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.
