parking charge notice

hi wonder if you can help me i have just received a parking charge notice from SMART PARKING also called TOWN AND CITY PARKING asking me to pay for over parking in asda it shows a picture of a car registered to me entering at 15.00 and leaving at 21.38 i did visit the store but twice in the same day i know i did so how come its not on their images also the store has attendants walking about if i had been in the store for 7 hrs he/she would have ticketed the car so what do i do ignore the letter or post an appeal?

  • Well this lot you can quite safely ignore

They dont do court, you will get a few scary looking letters, but its an easy option for this company

Or you can appeal because that's our usual advice and avoids you having to put up with all the debt collector threatograms for months on end. Also a few PPCs have started to scare people with small claims (very rare, and NOT this mob so far!) so the ignore advice is less common now. I advise appealing any fake PCN received from an AOS member for an incident in England/Wales.

Is this in England/Wales? If so read threads about appeals and POPLA. If this was in England/Wales and you decide to appeal you will need to send it within 28 days (do not say who was driving).

Post for more help if you need it after reading other threads. No rush.

Just to add - for goodness' sake before doing anything - start by COMPLAINING to the Store Manager at that Asda branch!! Do not discuss it with the teenager on the CS desk and do not take 'we don't own the car park' for an answer because that's a common Asda LIE. See this thread, one of MANY where people have complained to Asda successfully about this utter scam:

Get angry about this if you visited Asda twice - it's not a crime! - HOW DARE they allow their agent to harass you like this?!! Asda ARE responsible.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Make the appeal short and sweet, e.g.:

    Ref Parking Charge Notice xxxxxxx

The vehicle made two visits to the car park in question. Your ANPR is clearly defective. Please check your ANPR records and cancel the PCN, else provide me with a POPLA reference.

You could also add that you are reporting them to the DVLA for obtaining your details when they did not have proper cause to do so (which they didn't).

But only do the above if in England or Wales , if elsewhere ignore them completely.
When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.
