Windows 8/Libre Office/

I downloaded Libre Office and it works fine except I cannot change the end of the file to .doc or .docx. The option is there but it tells me the format is wrong and won't change it.

Is it possible to change it? I am using Windows 8.

I am using Libre 3.6 but v4 is probably very similar.

The default File/Save options are .odf so you need to change this setting to apply Microsoft standards (.doc etc) within the general settings.

Within Libre Writer click on Tools and select Options

Click the + sign against Load/Save and select General

Within this screen you can change the .odf file save to a microsoft version via the pulldown 'Always Save As'

You can make changes for other programs such as the spreadsheet etc on the same screen.

    Hope this helps.

Linux Mint comes with a copy of Libre office, I was wary at frist but was pleasantly surprised, it opened all my Word 2003 documents perfectly.
