so basically if you see a house you like, get a solicitor to run a full check against it without their permission, hope it comes back showing liability, then knock on their door offering £50 for their now 'worthless' property.....HPC made simple

I still can't help feeling that the only people who are going to come out of this farcical few years smiling are ChancelCheck

If the churches don't register it on the title deeds by 2013 you will not be liable to pay the church anything. Heres the the link: http://www.churchlaw.co.uk/ its found under Buildings then Chancel Repairs. ( 6 years and 4 months which is a very long time :( Once, this timescale has gone then I guess this chancel repair liability disappears )

    I quote from the website:
"Under the Land Registration Act 2002 (which came into force on 31 October 2003), chancel repair liabilities must be registered at HM Land Registry by 30 September 2013. If they are not registered, they will become unenforceable even if, as in the case of some Oxbridge colleges, the same lay rectors have maintained the Chancels since the fourteenth century."

It appears that you could run a full search and do just that.
Unfortunately, I'm cursed with having morals and ethics that would never allow me to do that to someone....damn my good upbringing

I think ChancelCheck have been smiling for quite some time already.
I don't blame them though, it's not their fault, they are just taking advantage of the fact that the church and govt really don't seem to have any morals, ethics or even principles, when it comes to looking after the majority.

    Regards,
    Phaid.

I think the government actually are against it in someways which is where the deadline got put in place to try and bring an end to a saga. I also thought a bill was attempting to go through to see it abolished butI will have to look for that

    In the meantime

Under charity law the vicars and church councils are obliged to pursue possible liabilities whether they want to or not.
