A couple of hopefully small PC problems...

Something has happened to my desktop PC overnight it would seem. I'm hoping the two issues i've found are related.

Sound - I can hear things through the speakers as normal, but if I hit a key by mistake, rather than make a noise through the speakers, it now makes it through the machine's base unit. This is a minor, if slightly annoying issue.

The main issue is burning DVD's - i've burnt DVD's for a while, but today it takes the image of the DVD but rather than burn the DVD it does one of two things - 1. Spits out the DVD, but with no message on the screen or 2. Burns, says it's burnt and closed successfully, but there isn't actually anything on the DVD. The PC I burnt from doesn't recognise, the other PC doesn't acknowledge a disc and both DVD players say unknown disc - i've not had this problem before.

I am using Infrarecorder.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Small update - I noticed an icon saying that Windows had not started all devices - I don't know why. Have re-started a couple of times and it's now not saying that and I have the sound back through speakers. I'll now try a burn again. I don't know why it wasn't loading all the windows devices...

You sound drivers are corrupt you'll need to go into Control Panel, Hardware,Device Manager and uninstall the Sound drivers for your machine and re-install them - it may be necessary to delete them (noting first the make i.e. Realtek) and download from their website. As for DVD you should be able to do this directly from Windows 7 & 8 - alternatively uninstall the software and re-install again.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.
