Stupid question I know but....

I feel as if I daren't ask, so please don't shout and I know I'm probably asking the same question again and again but - I've done Martins' eligibility check on getting a new credit card and everyone single one has come back with a fat 0, is it worth me trying anyway to get one (was going to try Nat West because that's who I bank with) or is it just going to screw my credit rating up even more. Thank you

p.s. This is not scam, just in case people think it is. Carol x

Try for one with your bank, they know your history.

A single application isn't likely to make much difference to your credit file.

But do you know what is on your file? do you know why these are showing you are likely to be declined?

Well yes it does seem that way. Did you ever try NatWest as people have suggested before? Did you ever try Capital One like has been suggested (even by yourself I think) before?

As said before, an extra application won't make a big difference if your record is bad enough to make it unlikely already.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Thats assuming your history with them is fairly good. If your history with them is bad too then you're better off going for a sub prime card company like Vanquish

But as Martn said recently- knowing your history could also be a bad thing ;)

OP - when was the last time you checked your credit file?

Your bank may know your account history, but I suspect too many of them have seperated their current account and credit card departments such that they might as well be seperate companies.

I tried with my bank Santander.

Being with them for 4 years, steady income, never overdrawn, regular direct debits that have never bounced.

They came back with 'Computer says no'.

The days of explaining your situation to a bank manager are long gone.

Went with Capital One / Luma myself and was welcomed with open arms. Only something for occasional expenses.

Have you seen your credit file? There may be something more major on it, like being missing from the electoral register, or a default you didn't know about? If you're not on the register, get on it asap, or if there's any incorrect info on your file, you can get it removed.

    Thank you to all repliers.

I'll give Nat West a go and like everyone says it can't get any worse than a refusal.

My credit report is all ok, all up to date, no defaults etc., etc.,
