Astra fault - has anyone else had this problem?

Hi forumites,

My Astra developed a problem when a fuse was changed to make the washers work. The control panel for the heating, demisters and the air conditioning isn't working. Taken it to two garages and it's going to be at least £220 to fix. Thankfully, car is under warranty and should be repaired for free!

I don't know much about cars, I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem? Damn thing is costing me a fortune these past few weeks in new tyres, tax, MOT and brake pads so it'd be nice to get some good news.

Thanks!

Why have you taken your car to multiple garages for quotes if it is still under warranty?

MOT on Monday. Got them to have a look at fuses for me.

New rear brake pads yesterday at a different garage, cheaper than MOT place and also repairs aircon. He diagnosed the fault for me.

but why are you posting here?
bit of a non issue if the warranty covers it?

Because I want to know if anyone else has had this problem. Is it common in the astra or other models? If they decide it's 'wear and tear' the Summer is going to be very uncomfortable as I can't afford to get this fixed out of my own pocket.

Fellow Astra driver here, I've never heard of this happening and I'm a member of a few Astra related forums.

I'm racking my brain to think how a simple fuse swap can do so much damage.
Did they take all the fuses out and randomly shove them back?

Also is this a Vauxhall warranty or one a dealer has given you with a used car?
I'm presuming it's not Vauxhall as you mentioned an MOT and the 'lifetime warranty' didn't come in until August 2010.Unless you've had the MOT done early before the three years is up (which is what I would do).

Hi, thanks. It's a dealer-issued warranty. They are going to take it to Vauxhall for me. Thank goodness they are providing a courtesy car for the day. Car is a 57 1.3 Diesel. Really happy with it apart from it pumping out hot air whenever I drive for more than ten minutes at a time. Bought it a year ago this week but warranty is for three years.
