think my HP G72 laptop is coming to the end of its days.
seems to be taking ages to turn on and shut down.
its working okay for browsing the internet, e-mails etc.
but if i want to watch videos, you tube, or on-line games it overheats within minutes
i have ran cc cleaner, malwarebytes, full system scan, blasted the vents with compressed air.updated bios.
but as soon as i try games or videos the fan takes off then the laptop shuts down.
so i am looking to buy a replacement, hopefully something a little future proof, any thoughts advice on these

The PC world machine is better if you play game.
Is it has to be Sony?
LENOVO Y580 at £600 with i5-3210m, 8GB RAM, GTX660M, is a lot better spec for the money if you play game.

Or Acer V3 at £465 with i5-3210m, 8GB RAM, GT630m, should perform similar with the PC world's sony you listed

thanks cisco001.
no it does not have to be sony, i just thought they were decent make, look well finished off. the last 2 laptops i have had have been HP and both had problems in the early days being sent backwards and forwards for repairs.
i did actally look at the lenovo but i read the y580 has a tracker pad problem known to lenovo so that put me off buying.
acer in general seem to get mixed reviews
will trot over to pc world and take another look at the lenovo.0 -
Instead of blasting the vents with compressed air (which can push the dust, etc further into the machine or do nothing at all), have you tried cleaning then vents "properly"?
There should be videos on YouTube which show how to take it apart and (more importantly) put it back together.
If the fan is "taking off" under any sort of stress then it sounds like an overheating problem more than end-of-life.
An hour or so and a couple of small screwdrivers should see you right.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -

when it overheats and i restart it i get a message that the system bios detected overheat so was shut down.0 -
In that case it's probably not dust thats the problem.
It's more likely to be a "furry slug" that actually blocking the vents.
I can't see your local PC shop charging too much to give it a clean so might be worth ringing them. Got to be cheaper than a new laptop.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

might ask around to see if any shops can do this.
it has been overheating as above for a long time now, but it will start straight back up.
the laptop has had continual use now for around 30 month. its switched on morning till night usually so i cant really complain if it is on the way out
out of curiosity what is a furry slug? compacted fluff/dust?0 -
thanks again.

There's no reason a laptop won't last years as opposed to 30 months, even with fairly heavy usage.
And yes, it's compacted fluff/dust/etc that a can of compressed air hasn't a hope of shifting.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

If you aren't going to be running around outside with it, consider a Desktop Replacement'. Sony VAIO E17 with Intel® CoreTM i5-3210M with a 17" Full HD screen for £449
Quite a bit better than the model to which you have linked.0 -
thanks NiftyDigits. will have a look at it, is that for new or refurbished?0
