EDF Energy Overcharging…. Now Resolved.

I put a post up a short while ago seeking advice after I had discovered my energy supplier had been overcharging me ever since I joined them six months before. After fighting to have the overcharged amount refunded I was offered £60 as an apology. I didn’t think this was adequate as I’d had to spend a considerable amount of time addressing the issue and ended up sending the matter to the ombudsman service. What a waste of time they are, they’re like a toothless guard dog, all the best intentions but nothing to back it up with. They came back with the suggestion that the £60 was adequate despite me providing evidence of the numerous calls I’d had to make to simply get the energy supplier to accept they’d overcharged me.
I rejected the ombudsman’s decision and set about going through the terms and conditions of my agreement with a view to factoring in the unfair terms in consumer contract regulations 1999. After a bit or research I emailed my supplier stating the amount of compensation I was looking for (hours spent dealing with it @ my hourly wage, plus interest on monies overcharged) and received an email from some halfwit in an executive office telling me they would not comment further and to take it up with their litigation department. Evidently the writer of this email thought I’d be scared and walk away, instead I cold called the head office and asked for the email address of the head of litigation, and got it
lol. Quick email to this chap explaining the situation and advising that I would issue any letter before claim by email directly to him in his capacity of head of litigation, and hey presto, an hour later the executive halfwit responded saying the amount I requested would be forwarded to me in the next few working days, funnily enough he put in his email that he still thought I was wrong…
Moral of the story… energy companies will continue to rip people off and they know the ombudsman service will do sod all to address it. I would advise anyone else facing this kind of problem, give it a whirl with the ombudsman (it’ll look better if you end up taking the court route to be able to show you tried the o/s) but if you don’t like the response, don’t accept it. Energy companies will go after you with a vengeance if you owe them money, do the same when the boots on the other foot.

Cheers mate, I have to admit it really got my back up, EDF is atrocious. What worries me is that whilst I have carried on kicking until it got addressed, with the way the letter made out I’d underpaid and they were doing the favour by not chasing any possible outstanding monies many ppl in the same situation probably wouldn’t have known better so out of 100 people screwed in this way, the energy companies probably only have to address maybe 5 complaints… nice money spinner for them.
I fired off an email to ofgem last night detailing the complaint, the pathetic way the ombudsman dealt with it, and the final resolution I had to sort out myself… got a reply this morning saying ofgem don’t deal with individual complaints and directing me to the ombudsman :rotfl:
As soon as the payment clears I will post the final email thread with edf and lets the masses have a read of what they’re like when they get caught out
