Being more serious ... just for a moment ... I'm in the process of sorting out a few bits and pieces which are surplus to requirements now we don't have boys at home, so am I likely to get a better price at CEX or at a pawn shop? I'm not sure I can face the aggro of gumtree and the like ... I just want to be offered a price and hand it over!

Or do I need to phone around as it may vary from item to item?

Facebook often has local selling groups. I know you have to take a pic, but it's way more forgiving that eBay, and you can ask for the price you want - rather than take the massage cut a pawn shop will give you.

If you aren't on facebook, I'm sure a friend/family member is for those allergic to it. :)

The family on facebook aren't local, and it's not something I can ask anyone else. Plus there'd be the aggro of arranging pickup etc. And I don't really do photos.

Sorry, but I really do want simple: here is my X, how much will you give me for it?

I guess it's back to phone calls. And a bit of research to see what things go for on Ebay. Ho hum ...
