Housing Rent for University student over the summer help please ?
Help please.. I am a disabled single mum with a 18 year old university student. She has finished halls residence and has found a house to share with four other girls for the remaning years at uni. Problem is that the landlord wants the rent over the summer months June-sept as its a 12 month contract.. but we cant get any financial help to pay the rent of £1200. She cant get careers allowance as she is in full time uni (10 hours per week )but helps me 24/7 !! and cant sign on as she is in full time education.. i need her to help me to give my mum rest.but we need the money . so all my disability living allowance has to go on her rent .. while we live on nothing or hand outs from friends and family.. We cant be the only ones in this nightmare.. please does anyone know what or who cn help us.

I don't think in her situation there is anything available as student finance is meant to cover the whole year round unless you fall into certain categories, which I don't think your daughter does.
Is there any temporary work she can find to fit around helping care for you? Or any other options of you sourcing different carers?0 -
If you contact social services they may be able to offer respite care, so your mother can have a break and your daughter can seek work over the summer.0

i used to rent my room out over summer as i always used to look for landlords to do this so i could work at summer camps in the USA and Canada over the summers. the other thing she could do is leave renting until September (all of them if they can) as its a load of cotton wool for most areas that all houses have gone and usually you can get it cheaper and barter them down as they will be desperate to rent it out so it isn't empty for the whole year:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

Providing she's not yet signed for the house I'd suggest looking for somewhere else. Some landlords will let you pay half rent over the summer if you don't stay there (this is more common in some cities than others, I don't know anybody who's managed to get this in Newcastle but friends in Manchester all have) and in my uni city at least (Newcastle) there are 3 main student move-in dates - 1st July, 1st August and 1st September, so she may be able to find somewhere that will start on 1st September. It's worth bearing in mind though that if you get a tenancy starting in September then although she won't be paying rent this summer she will be paying it for the summer after she graduates.
Renting out the room is a possibility but check if you can do this first as normally student properties have a clause against this in the tenancy agreement.0 -
Try contacting her university, as many offer crisis loans. I'm not sure what the conditions are for getting a crisis loan at her uni but worth a try0
