So sorry you have had such a rough time. It must be very hard on both of you.

You can go on the benefits calculator to work out what you would be due. For the housing benefit and council tax you could get the forms filled in so they were all ready to go.

I think your letter to your creditors is ok, but I wonder if you 'need' to tell them so much personal stuff, perhaps your DMP provider could advise?

Nat - I paid for the repairs, and yes, the landlord has been great. Do I want to be with him? Well, that's a bigger question. This was very out of character and I believe him to be ill, but I can't make a decision on that at the moment.

Sorry Chev - I sent the letter before I saw your comments. In any case, it doesn't appear to have helped, as Barclaycard have just written to say my repayment arrangement has been cancelled and if I don't pay in full in 14 days they will hand the case over to debt collectors. Does anyone know how I can/ should handle this?
