I'm intrigued to know how much of the modernisation was undone on the nomadic. We were involved at the early stages and it turned out that, when the engine was taken out, the whole thing was filled with some heavy duty concrete. We concluded that it would take 10s of thousands of hours with drilling equipment to get it out... They were determined that it should be done so I'd love to know what ended up done!
As intrigued as I am about how the 1st Class section turned out. I have been following this from the start and can clearly remember that much of the original wood panelling was still there. It must look fantastic now that it's been restored but none of the reports on telly have shown that section.
Concrete would have been used as ballast, to make the boat sit at the optimum depth in the water. I wonder how much of what was there was original, what was added and why? I do know that most of the hull sections which had been underwater need to be replaced as they had become porous, which is why she couldn't be floated over to Belfast and came in on a barge.
There must be a schedule of works somewhere, maybe at Harland & Wolffe as they did the bulk of the restoration AFAIK.0
