Credit file queery

Hi all.

I am looking into cleaning and rebuilding my credit report/history having been discharged from a joint IVA back in Aug 2012. The IVA has been removed from my report and over the last few months the score (I know it doesn't mean much) has slowly been improving to a fair score of 797 with Experian. On Noodle it is 3/5.

I have joint current accounts with my other half, insurance policies, utility bills under my name, a credit card to rebuild my credit worthyness, all payments up to date with no missed payments. I'm on the electoral role also.

My questions are:

1. Having 30 linked financial associations with my other half, is this having a negative effect? They are 99% with our current bank.

2. Having 7 previous searches, on financial associations with my other half, primarily on insurance services, is this having a negative effect?

3. Is having 8 linked addresses having a negative impact? I was on the electoral role for all of them.

4. Are all these entries going to remain on my report for ever or will they slowly drop off. Some of the linked addresses go back to March 2008.

In a couple of years I am hoping to apply for a mortgage and want to get my report into a good state in preparation before I apply to stand any chance of being successful.

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.

    1. Having 30 will make no more difference than having 1 financial association between the 2 of you. Whether it would harm your ability to get credit would depend on what is on his file, and whether its considerably worse than yours.

    2. Unlikely. If they are shown as quotation searches then they will have no impact. If they are credit application searches then in the short term they could have an impact on your ability to get credit but not longer term (say after 6-12months)

    3. If they are all accurate addresses then it is correct that they show and there is nothing you can do about them.

    4. In general items remain on file for a period of 6years. Financial associations stay on file indefinitely until you file a notice of disassociation (which obviously you wouldn't as you still have joint finances).

Suggest you consider a savings account such as Nationwides Save to Buy. As there's really nothing better than a lenders first hand knowledge of you and your ability to manage your personal finances. This will help negate the historic legacy on your credit report.
