Public Transport - Exeter to Manchester Airport
Options
Hello :hello:
It's my first post so please be gentle
I amlooking to travel from Exeter to Manchester Airport on July 21st, returning July 30th.
I am am bit horrified by the prices on the train for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children ages 8 & 11) which are coming out at £280
National Express is cheaper at £163 but the long journey time of over 7 hours is a deterrent.
How can I improve these prices? I don't mind the long bus journey but for £163 I was hoping to get there by train.
I hope someone can help
Thanks
Karen

Simply by buying a family railcard (£20) you can bring the price down to £160.
Have you looked at cheap singles? In theory you can get the cost down to £54 this way but availability might be slim.0 -
Thanks for your help!
I will look at the family railcard - that's a great idea.
The singles didn't have any availability unfortunately.
Thanks again!0 -
Have you considered splitting the journey - Exeter to Birmingham & Birmingham to Manchester Airport - from £8.50 each way between Birmingham & Manchester Airport and from £20.40 each way Exeter to Birmingham0

No, I had not considered that, but I certainly will now! I will go off and look.
Many thanks for your help

I'm not sure how much cost is an issue for you (as opposed to value), but for the dates you need, flybe is charging £255 total.
Cheaper than the train and a lot more comfortable than National Express.
