Advice re written off vehicle

Options
Can anyone advise me please. I own an old volvo estate car, the type that has gutters on the roof that can take a heavy duty antique dealer's roof rack which I need for my work. Last week when it was parked up it was hit and suffered some damage which my garage says is repairable. My insurance company has offered me £450 as write off value and is pressuring me to remove my personal belongings so they can take it away. I would like to keep the car and have it repaired as it is the last Volvo model that can carry large furniture on the roof rack. The other driver's insurance company has written to me offering to repair it at their cost but I don't think they know my insurance company has written it off. I would like some advice on the best way to negotiate with my insurance company to get my car back on the road and advice on whether I should respond to the other driver's insurance company's letter. It might be that it would be cheaper to buy a replacement car if the repair costs are too high (I'm waiting for an estimate) but that is also a concern as I am only allowed the hire car for five days after settlement and it would probably take a lot longer than that to find a similar vehicle. All the time I am losing some business as I cannot carry furniture in the shiny new Passat they have given me. Any help would be appreciated.

If the damage is not major perhaps a dent and broken light tell your insurance company that you want to keep the car and ask how much they want for it.
If it exceeds market value the other insurance company will write it off anyway. If it is taken away by the insurance company you may not see it again without paying a big storage fee.

Im fairly sure you would be able to buy the car back off the insurance company if they have written it off so suggest it to them and see what they say.
