We're going through similar, although have no kiddies. So i'm pretty sure you're entitled to some help!
You should be entitled to housing benefit, although best to book an appointment and ask who's name the application should be made in (ie. I won't be classed as a student over summer but my partner will so I was advised to apply on behalf of both of us)
I also believe you should be entitled to income support. So best to book an appointment aswell with the job centre (Sorry not the best advice)
And also might be worth talking to your universitys funding/guidance department and see if they can give you help over summer.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, but there is definitely help out there for you and I wish you all the best hun! xx
